Improve Google Ranking -- Google it -- There are 913,000 results

Review by M. Hill, 2010-05-30

The first of the 52 "Ideas", there are no chapters, is "What's so special about Google. Is it really all that?" and we are off to a shaky start. It is safe to say that few people would pick up the book, even to glance at it in a bookstore or library without already knowing why it would be advantageous for a website to be number one on Google. Unfortunately, the entire book is so elementary it isn't as helpful as it could be. I am not a tech professional, but the information is too basic.

For some of us, a technical manual may be impossible to decipher and require a significant allotment of time when there are already too many urgent matters demanding attention. But, this goes too far in the other direction. This is a small book printed with a large font and includes numerous photographs to provide visual interest. It is not packed full of information. I read it in an hour.

The most important question is did I learn anything? Yes, I did, but, and this is a big but, I didn't learn enough. Personally, I wanted more substance. Even accounting for the rapidly changing internet environment where information is out-of-date almost instantly, this is not a book to keep as a reference. It is quickly disposable, and not something I would refer back to at a later date.

This book may be a good starting point for someone with no exposure to Google. Perhaps the safest route, if interested in the book, is to take a look at it before buying it to ensure it will meet your particular needs.

Already out of date.

Review by S. Steele, 2010-03-13

Already out of date. A lot of the free services he suggests are no longer free (some are if your internet savvy). After following his suggestions to the letter my site ceremoniously dropped on Google from page one, to page two, to page seven, all in one day. Great. I'd like to contact Jon Smith but his email is well hidden, or rather not put anywhere obvious. I paid money for your book. Now be available like David Pouge.

Quick read, not enough information

Review by Justin L Lurie, 2010-03-05

I purchased this book due to it's glowing reviews, I am disappointed. I did enjoy reading it as the author has a very funny sarcasm here and there, but it is too lite on details and content.

His 52 tips are worthy, but good luck implementing them. There is just not enough hard details and step by step guides

I read this book too, and it had far more information and practical use: Search Engine Optimization For Dummies

no meat here

Review by Lookout!, 2010-02-15

Nothing here. The big font size makes this the size of a magazine article, not a book. Big disappointment; waste of money.

Short and Sweet

Review by Jason P. Lim, 2010-01-26

It's a rather small book. Definitely not one of those bible reference books. However I don't have lots of time to read through deep explanations. Not all 52 tools (more like tips) are groundbreaking, but it's a great laundry list of things anyone can do to put you up higher on the totem pole. Quick and dirty tips without the lengthy references and historical context. I liked the book.
